Historical Possibilities: |
|
|
During the 2003 NWT Election for MLA's: |
58 candidates incurred total election expenses of: $439,159.43
If only the 21,474 enumerated voters had contributed only their
free $100,
$2,147,400 would have been contributed. |
$1,708,240.57 |
could have been donated to NWT Charities |
|
During the 2007 NWT Election for MLA's: |
56 candidates incurred total election expenses of: $501,022.23
If only the 22,976 enumerated voters had contributed only their
free $100,
$2,297,600 would have been contributed. |
$1,796,577.77 |
could have been donated to NWT Charities |
|
- If the enumerated voters had contributed $200, which would have really only cost them $50,
an additional ~$2.3 million would have been available: - The total climbs to: $4.1 million
- If the ?5000? enumerated voters making over $80,000 had contributed an extra $700 (total $900 - really
only costing them $400)*,
an additional ~$3.5 million would have been available and the total would climb to: $7.6 million
- If the ?? NWT taxpayers not enumerated, ?? NWT Corporations, and ?? NWT Trusts (total ?1800?) had also contributed $900,
another ~$1.6 million would have been available: - The total climbs again to: $9.2 million*
- If the ?10,000? NWT church-goers channel an additional $700 (total $900) of their normal church contributions via this method,
an additional ~$7 million available: - Grand Total = $16.2 million
Why?? Charitable Donations only yield a 17-??% deducted from taxable income.
A $900 Political Contribution yields a 55% return - deducted from actual tax payable.*
* The tax payable credit could then be donated in April/May 2012, resulting in additional charitable funding and provide a charitable deduction for 2012.
Thus contributors are able to provide funding twice, over two years, for the same total cost.
The above demonstrates a possible $32 million in core funding that could have been available to NWT Charities over the past 8 years.
It also demonstrates the value of the education and mobilization required to collect the $16 million available in the upcoming 2011 election.
