The Road to Longevity Donald McLeod M.D., Philip White M.D., and W.M. Heatherington The Truth About Hormone Replacement, Antioxidants, Exercise, Stress, and Diet. Section III Refortifying the Fort, Re-arming the Army
Our bodies are in perpetual combat against disease and death. When we are young our bodies are in good condition, like a newly built fort. As we age this fort falls into disrepair. However, HGH has shown that it can refortify the aging fort, to refurbish and rebuild much of it. Just as it restores and rebuilds cells and organs, it has also been shown that it can rebuild and restore elements of the bone marrow, and the thymus gland. With this rebuilt fort we are then better able to ward off and repel attacks from intruders such as bacteria and viruses - and even from saboteurs such as arthritis, and fifth columnists such as cancer cells. In addition to the fort falling into disrepair as we age, the army within it ages as well. Our army of natural born killers - those battlers in our blood - become less deadly. This army also becomes less formidable in number. The attrition of the years takes its toll. The army has, to a considerable extent, become disarmed. But here, too, HGH serves as an ally. It can re-arm the army. And while it has not shown that it can re-arm all aspects of our immune system, it has shown that it can re-arm a good deal of it. Besides the improvements growth hormone is able to bring to the bone marrow and the thymus, it has been shown to restore or improve the function of virus fighters such as T-cells, as well as cancer fighters such as NK cells, and to improve the production of other immune factors such as tumor necrosis factor and interleukin 1 and 2.
