HGH: The Master Hormone
Other Studies and Experiments

Although Dr. Rudman's study was pivotal in demonstrating the formidable power of HGH in combating the aging process, there have been other studies as well. Some have focused on one area, some on another.

In Europe, there have been studies by Professor Peter Sonksen at St. Thomas' Hospital Medical School in London, Dr. Jens Sandahl Christiansen at the University of Aarhus in Denmark, and Dr. Bengt-Ake Bengtsson at the University of Goteborg in Sweden. These studies have largely been concerned with HGH deficiencies in adults caused by pituitary disease.

Many of these patients exhibited symptoms not that dissimilar from the characteristic conditions associated with aging, the most obvious being the wasting away of muscle tissue and the bulbous, ill-defined body shape. The consequences of employing HGH replacement therapy in these studies have been very favorable. In the words of Dr. Sonksen, they have given "...remarkably consistent results."

Thomas Falkheden, a Swedish scientist describing the condition of patients who had undergone the removal of the pituitary gland, included symptoms such as a lower basal metabolism, impaired heart and kidney function, reduced blood volume - all conditions which make a regular appearance in the aged. Further, these conditions were present in those patients despite the fact that most of them were undergoing appropriate hormone replacement therapy, with one glaring exception - they were not receiving HGH. When HGH was included in the replacement therapy, for a great many of these patients, their condition was seen to improve.
