The Rudman Study (cont'd)
All had been directed to continue on through the study with their lifestyles unchanged, to do nothing different or out of the ordinary - smoke if they smoked previously, drink if they drank previously, and take exercise only to the extent they had taken exercise previously. Alter nothing in their normal patterns of behavior. The results of this study were unmistakable. Those who had been administered HGH over the six month period had an average 8.8% gain in muscle mass, a 14% decrease in fat. Their skin had grown thicker and the vertebrae of the lower spine had increased in bone mass. By Dr. Rudman's evaluation they had dropped 10 to 20 years of aging from their physical makeup. In essence, they had turned back the clock, their bodies appeared to be 10 or 20 years younger. This remarkable result was immediately recognized as a stunning breakthrough in the war on aging. Dr. Rudman was excited about the results and was eager to run future tests and experiments. Unhappily, he never got the chance. He died from a pulmonary embolism in 1994... But he had shown the way.
And now, at the beginning of the new millennium, the field of anti-aging is burgeoning.
