Estrogen (page 4/4)

The benefits of estrogen replacement therapy are:

  1. Improved longevity.
  2. Relief from depression.
  3. Loss of wrinkles and dry skin.
  4. Improved libido and energy levels.
  5. Proper menstrual cycles and fertility.
  6. Relief from fatigue, sweating, hot flushing.
  7. Decreased atherosclerosis (less LDL, more HDL cholesterol).
  8. Improved brain function with protection from Alzheimer's disease.
  9. Less heart attack, stroke, heart failure, if taken before disease starts.
  10. Diminished osteoporosis (possibly with estrogen stimulating HGH production).
Results published in 1996 from the Kaiser Permanente study done in California showed that the death rate from all causes was reduced by 44% in post menopausal women who were on estrogen replacement.

However, since estrogen therapy has been linked to an increased risk of endometrial cancer in women, caution is the watchword. And balance. Research has shown that when progesterone is administered along with estrogen, the chance of developing uterine (endometrial) cancer is greatly reduced.

Recently, it has been shown that the risk of developing breast cancer with hormone replacement therapy together is unlikely to be increased. The beneficial effects of natural estrogens may be negated by certain un-natural progestins. The goal should be to bring the hormonal levels back, in balance, to what is near normal. This should be carried out under the auspices of a medical doctor who can monitor the levels of these potentially life saving hormones.
