Section III
Appearance

One point that we did not examine while looking at fat loss was appearance.

Although our appearance may not directly affect our physical health, it does have an impact indirectly, through our psychological state. We all want to look our best, and when we do not, our self-esteem suffers, often affecting our physical health more than we might guess. Because ultimately, the mind and body are one entity.

Moreover, although emphasis on appearance may strike some as superficial, like it or not, we live in a world where appearances count. And they count big.

There are the old bromides that may suggest otherwise: "You can't judge a book by its cover." or "Clothes don't make the man." but in the world of today, appearance is important.

Perhaps it has to do with the pace of everyday life.
We meet dozens of people a day, some for only a moment or two.
Often during these moments it is necessary that we make an instantaneous judgment about a person.

For instance, if a department store is trying to sell us something, one of the most influencing factors is the salesperson's demeanor and appearance.

So appearance is important. And one of the most important features of our appearance is our face.
