Section III
The Secretogogue Agents
Drugs

The one drug we will look at here that acts as an HGH releaser is a drug we just touched upon above, L-dopa.

Amongst its other properties, L-dopa is an excellent secretogogue. Since it is an amino acid precursor to several neurotransmitters that control pituitary function, it is thereby a very effective secretogogue.

A study conducted in 1982 involved the treatment of rats with L-dopa. The results of this study were that the rats showed raised levels of serum and pituitary levels of GH. In addition, the older rats regained levels of GH that were in line with those exhibited by young rats.

Also, it has been shown that IGF-1 levels do not decrease after years of treatment with L-dopa for Parkinson's disease or for Nocturnal Leg Cramps.

Research data on L-dopa has shown that it is a powerful drug, and as such, remains available only by prescription.
