Palm Springs Data (cont'd)

These amazing results were achieved by hormone replacement therapy, chief amongst them being HGH.
In most cases, the results were attained in one to three months, and improvement continued over the following six months of treatment.

By testing beforehand, the hormonal levels for each patient were determined and a therapy tailored to the particular needs of that patient. By further testing throughout the course of treatment, the hormones requiring replacement could be monitored and dosages adjusted.

Dr. Chein and Dr. Terry tailored their treatments based on the fact that the peak levels of HGH generally occur in men, one to two hours after we first fall asleep at night. During the day the pattern is less predictable, with smaller bursts - or pulses - of HGH showing up in the bloodstream at various times, but always at levels significantly lower than the major rise during early sleep.

Women secrete in smaller bursts throughout the 24 hours.

In the initial days of HGH, when children were first being treated for pituitary deficiencies, they were treated in a hospital setting. They were given large doses of HGH three times a week. This was far from ideal and did not produce ideal results. As Dr. Chein has observed:
"We are not equipped for or used to handling large doses of HGH only three times a week."

He compares this to compelling people to eat only three huge meals per week, rather than three or four smaller meals each day.

Consequently, at Palm Springs, HGH treatments are set at a low dose, high frequency schedule. By "micro-managing" each patient's treatment in this way, and by administering the doses of HGH to mimic the levels that the body naturally attains, the side effects were reduced to a negligible factor.

Dr. Chein and Dr. Terry made HGH replacement a stunning win-win situation.
